Cyclopropanation

Cyclopropanation is the process of forming cyclopropane in chemical molecules. Cyclopropane is the smallest cyclic ring possible, consisting of three carbon atoms. However, its small size makes it highly strained requiring catalytic expertise to devise reactions to synthesise the small ring. Molecules containing cyclopropane rings have found use as precursors to other industrial chemicals and as such, its formation is highly useful throughout the fine chemicals industries.
