Celebrating Excellence at ISOM 2025: Best Oral Communication and Best Poster Awards
At this year’s International Symposium on Olefin Metathesis (ISOM 2025) in Liège, Belgium, we proudly celebrated outstanding achievements in scientific communication with two key awards: Best Oral Communication and Best Poster Presentation.
These honors recognize not only the scientific excellence of the work presented but also the clarity, creativity, and impact of the communication. This year’s winners truly stood out:
Best Poster Presentation: Patrick Probst (University of Stuttgart)
Ring-Expansion Metathesis Under Confinement
Best Oral Communication: Kanticha Jaiyen (Tokyo Metropolitan University)
Synthesis of Functionalized Bottlebrush Polymers through Z-/E-specific Living ROMP Exhibiting Distinct Thermal and Emission Properties
In a highlight of the closing ceremony, Angelino Doppiu took the stage and handed over “Gold Bars” - a symbolic and playful tribute to the value of outstanding science communication.
We are also proud to share that Umicore PMC was a Gold Sponsor of ISOM 2025, reaffirming our commitment to supporting innovation and collaboration in the field of homogeneous catalysis.
Angelino Doppiu, Principal Scientist at Umicore PMC delivered a talk with the title “Bridging Academia and Industry: Scalable Routes to Ruthenium-Based Metathesis Catalysts.” At the intersection of academic innovation and industrial application, our work at Umicore PMC exemplifies how foundational discoveries - like those of Bob Grubbs in Ruthenium based olefin metathesis - can be transformed into scalable, market-ready technologies. By bridging the gap between lab-scale synthesis and industrial production, we are not only honoring Grubbs' legacy but also enabling the widespread adoption of ruthenium-based metathesis catalysts across diverse chemical sectors.
Congratulations once again to Patrick and Kanticha and thank you to all participants for making ISOM 2025 an inspiring gathering of minds. Looking forward to the next event in 2027.
