SCS 2018

Toulouse, France

The 1st Stable Carbene Symposium, possibly the first of a Symposium series, is organized on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the discovery of stable carbenes. Long considered as chemical curiosities because they defy the octet rule, carbenes have become common functional groups and today rank among the most powerful tools in organic, inorganic and organometallic chemistry. They have unique properties and find widespread applications in homogeneous catalysis, both as organocatalysts and as ligands for transition metals. They are also increasingly used in medicinal chemistry and material science.

The aim of this symposium is to bring together chemists working on or interested in stable carbenes, and to foster exchange on the recent, ongoing and future developments in carbene chemistry. The provisional program consists in nine plenary lectures by renowned speakers, including the two pioneers of the field. In addition, a poster session will allow the youngest researchers to share and exchange on their latest results in the field.
